Roundthorn Country House & Luxury Apartments, hotel in Penrith

The Roundthorn Country House and luxury self-catering Mews Apartments are set in landscaped gardens, with panoramic views of the Eden Valley and Lakeland Fells.

First class hotel. Friendly helpful staff, beautiful, comfortable room and excellent food. We were driving south from Scotland to Liverpool to join a cruise ship, unfortunately due to bad weather conditions our itinerary was changed and we elected not to sail. I rang the hotel on our way back north and were delighted that they were able to give us the same room. Would definitely stay at Roundthorn again.

we visited Penrith as a bit of nostalgia as we used to go frequently in the past. The town was very quiet although we found a very good restaurant, GRANTS, for a delicious evening meal. It used to be a bustling market town which seems to have lost its heart . Maybe internet shopping has affected the economy of the town as is the case in many towns. It is perhaps a useful place to stay to explore the surrounding area which remains beautiful.

We used The Station Hotel as a stop off for a day trip to Scotland and could have stayed longer in Penrith as we barely took a look around. We had some dramas and it is credit to staff and management that they were able to sort booking confusions quickly and professionally. Thanks folks.

Penrith as a great place to base yourself for a stay in the Lake District. It's quieter than the more popular and populous towns of Keswick and Windermere - except in March when it hosts the World Marmalade Festival and, according to Karen and Ali from Blue Swallow Guesthouse, the town is decorated with Paddington Bears and Honey Pots. They even boast having one of the champion marmalade makers stay with them on an annual basis.

Free parking and a bar on site were positives as was the central location. The advert said that it was a larger than average room but including the bathroom it was no more than 13ft by 8 ft. There was no table or chairs so not a pleasant area to spend any time. The bottom of the outside of the shower had ingrained dirt.

If you fancy homecooked Cumbrian food this is the place to stay and you will enjoy high qiuality raw matrerials used by an excellent cook. Very service minded staff, which is the couple that has converted their home into a B&B. Not the standard of a modern hotel but it clealry has its charm. Located in a quite street a short walk uphill from the town center. On the back side it is only a short walk to the forrest recreactional walking paths. A large garden is nice to be in if the weather allows.

Lovely hotel in the centre of penrith. The room was lovely and clean, and the bed was extremely comfortable. Had the full Cumberland for breakfast the 1st morning and the scrambled egg & smoked salmon the next. Both were well presented and beautifully cooked and were delicious. We stayed in the bar one of the nights, there was some great live music and the food we ordered was fabulous, the best fish finger sandwich I've ever tasted. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Perfect location for visiting Ullswater or Penrith, with the lake being about 15 minutes away. Penrith itself is literally on your doorstep and there are some nice little bakery's and coffee shops to try out. I think people mentioning stains on the carpet etc are probably just finding something to complain about because it really doesn't make any difference to your stay at all, the shower was great and the heating barely even needed to be on to make everything warm.

A really lovely family run hotel. The owners are so warm and friendly. Easy to book and they answered all my queries prior to arriving. The room was lovely and warm and the room spotlessly clean. Bed was really comfy and lovely thick, fluffy towels provided. A kettle with plenty of choice of drinks on offer as well as bottled water. Breakfast was superb with lots of choice of hot and cold food. We would definately recommend.

We returned for an overnight stay having done a similar short stay last December and we’re once again not disappointed. The staff were excellent and the accommodation was comfortable. We love the central location in Penrith and the market-town-hotel feel of The George. And not only was the price excellent. it we were given a free room upgrade. We’ll be back!

Station Hotel provided a good budget stopover for our Coast to Coast cycle ride. The room was basic but clean. They allowed us to store our bikes securely inside. Breakfast is not available but there is a Morrisons and Costa right across the road for provisions. It was quiet and we had a friendly welcome from the staff.

Welcoming friendly hotel in a tiny Cumbrian village. Lovely staff, especially the waitress that we spoke to (blond lady) in the restaurant, sorry I didn’t ask your name, but you were super lovely!! Great evening meal, especially the Salmon and Asparagus. Good breakfast and nice cosy room. Excellent value for money.

Breakfast is good, and is included in the price (otherwise we wouldn't have it but would get something in town). Parking is easy, fairly cheap, and very close. The hotel is very close to the town centre, which is good, as Penrith is (for us) a worthwhile town to potter around and spend money.

The room was ok but we had paid for an upgrade. Radiator in room not working so in the evening it was cold, we reported it. Food was ok as was breakfast. Car Park is unique in that because of one way system you have to go all the way around to park at the hotel.
