Brilliant old house, in great condition. The yrd wants some love though. I'd be happy to rebuild the stone walls.

After 32 years since my last visit, I was saddened to find that the bustling daily life and historical scenes of my past recollected experience were no longer present (lots of costumed interpreters, horses and carts, auctions, active village programs throughout the day, period meals served in the food purveyor spaces). The life and character of this historical fortress apparently died a COVID death as very few individuals were around to bring to life the settlement in its heyday. Barely any animals to be seen and lots of closed buildings. Our highlight was the bakery and buying fresh bread. Unfortunately a disappointment but hopefully some federal funding can inject new life into this excellent site in the near future.

The Fortress is an amazing Canadian landmark accomplishment, a historical treasurer! We took 2 tours, the first was a Solider in period dress who shared his life story, and actually shot his rifle to demonstrate. He then escorted us to one of the homes, where we were met by a woman in period dress who shared life in the household and the history of homemade hot chocolate which she had prepared for us. We also booked a private tour; our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about sharing the history of the Louisbourg fortress! Every building we entered had amazing people in period dress, sharing stories of life at that time...this experience is where history truly comes to life. Thank you Canada!

Louisbourg is a really cute piece of Paradise, very small and quiet. The Forteresse is amazing. We really enjoyed our time there . So much history happened in Louisbourg that we did not know about. Very entertaining and educational .

Louisburg is an amazing town with an incredibly rich history. The Heritage House reflects that beautifully with its rooms and hallways and dining areas that reflect our history. The breakfasts were just amazing and in a wonderful setting. We could walk anywhere in the town and easily access delicious food, drinks and beautiful scenery.

We had a great time visiting the Fortress of Louisbourg and exploring some country roads in the area. Staff at the Fortress was very welcoming. It was a great experience learning about what life was like back in the 1700s

As a history lover, the fortress is fascinating.
As a history lover, the fortress is fascinating. The experience is scaled down a bit due to COVID-19 restrictions but still enjoyable seeing the site and interacting with the friendly and knowledgeable costumed guides.
Very conveniently located on route to Fortress of Louisbourg, which is what we had come to see.
The room was clean and comfortable, for a really good price.
The staff were excellent. Bal quickly solved a couple of problems we had with the TVs., and she is such a pleasant and helpful person. So is Glenda with breakfast in the morning. In fact, the breakfast was a pleasant surprise because our booking confirmation said there was no meal with the room. Thanks!!
The owner David is absolutely wonderful. Accommodation is cute and was very clean. I assumed that you would hear the other guests in the house as I believe it’s a wood frame but it was surprisingly quiet despite an almost full house. Bed was comfortable, they have blackout blinds, air con in room- I slept well. I’m not really a breakfast person but I would say- Don’t miss the breakfast here, it was delicious!
Upon our arrival, we found the front door of the house unlocked and the key to our room on the front desk with a note from our host that they could unfortunately not greet us in person - so a very uncomplicated way of checking in. There was also a recommendation on that same note for a restaurant next door that we followed and it was a good choice!
The owner was easy to reach and understanding. We had a very late check-in (midnight) and he was able to accommodate us. The room was clean and the amenities provided matched what was advertised at the time of booking. The location of the motel was also very convenient to the lighthouse and to go to the fortress. Great location!
Breakfast was exceptional with "specials" added each day-once eggs benedict, another morning quiche. David was the absolute best, welcoming, making everything easy. The room was lovely. Location couldn't be better for a visit to the Fortress at Louisbourg. Dinner restaurants in town were very good too.
The cabins were perfect, quaint, and well equipped. Within walking distance of town , a short drive to both the fort and the light house.
The Spoondrift cafe in town was superb.Best scallops ever. There was a small babbling brook at the back of our cabin and the sound was so soothing.
The view was gorgeous. The rooms were extremely comfortable, well equipped and clean. The staff were friendly. We even ran into one of them in town while we were out having dinner and she came over to say hello and chat with our child. You never find that anywhere else!
This is a lovely place to stay. It was so quiet and comfortable and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was delicious both mornings we were there. Our host was exceptional and helpful about places to eat. We would certainly stay there again!
Location, location, location. Perfect spot with a perfect view. Our unit felt more like a condo. We took an oceanview unit. Breakfast nook and balcony overlooking the ocean and the fortress visible through the fog. Just beautiful.
The Inn truly was exceptional - comfortable clean rooms in a huge old family house converted to a lovely inn, with period furnishings. The breakfasts were delicious. Host Richard was welcoming - a place worth staying at for sure!
