If you work in or / commute to NJ or NYC - this gem of a boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Newark is a must consider - it has the amenties you need, super easy to commute into/out of, has shuttle service, a restaurant but is also right be military park so you are close to restaurants / stores - all safe and you cannot beat the price - the accommodations are far superior to other hotels in NYC when you factor in price alone. Always my go to location

TRYP was a little bit more expensive than a regular motel or 2* but I was very impressed with my stay here. Firstly the location. 10min to Newark penn. close by to buses. Centrally located. If you don't mind the 30 min commute to New York Manhattan and can manage the confusing transit options, TRYP is definitely worth an option and you'll save a bit instead of staying in New York main stream. The facility was kept very clean and staff were friendly and helpful. Not a lot of restaurant options in the area..but I loved both my stays here, one was in a smaller room and the other one was big. Definitely recommend.

When I spoke to the owner, I was told that there was no reservation and that they have stopped making reservations with Booking.com months ago, yet I received confirmation, very confusing and not professional I was left to find a last minute room!

Honestly, I find Newark to be sketchy and not super safe.
Honestly, I find Newark to be sketchy and not super safe. I used to be a flight attendant based out of EWR 30 years ago and it hasn't changed. We went to the Prudential Center for a concert, so we were just in and out for one night. I wouldn't recommend vacationing here ever.
Layout of room was very well thought out and quite functional. Mirrored closet doors, lighting to enhance your mood, elevator security (extra layer much appreciated 👏🏾), ice machine located outside room door (very convenient), and hotel atmosphere at front desk is very welcoming. Room view of Newark, NJ @ dusk 🌆 and @ night 🌙 was priceless. Breakfast Buffet @ restaurant
was excellent. Variety is the spice of life 😋. Would come back and stay here again.
The location was fabulous! Just across the road from Newark Penn Station, NJ.
There is an overhead enclosed thoroughfare with a few shops along the way that takes you from the hotel directly to the station.
The bed was very comfortable and the room was a generous size. The lifts worked very well, so good if you have mobility issues. The pizza we had at the cafe was the best we had on our 9-week trip!
The hotel is very close to the Newark International Airport so it was perfect for me since I had a late flight in. It worked wonderfully for me. The room was surprisingly big, well-equipped with amenities - they might come in handy for those staying longer than just one night. Also the commute to Manhattan is unproblematic. The breakfast was humble but still varied. It was all I needed and expected.
Stayed in this hotel 2 times before and after a flight from Newark airport. They have a shuttle service and a good breakfast. Also the connection with Manhattan (Penn station) is good with a train connection from Newark airport. Which is better (more easy) then from JFK. Buy your ticket in the terminal to avoid waiting lines. (12 dollar senior). No airport noise.
Loved the hotel and staff friendliness. Was easy to commute to the Newark Penn station to go to NYC (Manhattan) as that was the main purpose of our visit. Room was great and food was good too. Only issue was that the location was not the best after dark but we always used Uber to get right in front of the hotel so it didn't affect us.
This is our third time staying at this hotel. The location to outlets and airport is great! It’s clean and size of room is good. We didn’t have breakfast this visit but have it before and it’s good.
We left our luggage in the store room as we had a late flight so that was helpful. Staff very helpful
the hotel is well located, very close to the Newark Penn Station. The room and bathroom are quite specious. it was very clean and with enough amenities. check in and check out we’re very simple and easy. Staff was friendly.
we enjoy our stay there. Will recommend it.
Near the airport and shuttle to and from Newark airport was a major convenience. If you are in transit alone or as a couple this hotel will work. Any thing more in terms of number of people or number of nights I would not consider it at all.
Was here for a conference in Manhattan, but chose to stay here. The hotel is directly across the street from Newark Penn Station, so it was easy to catch a NJ Transit train to Penn Station in NY and pick up the subway.
Cute hotel! Staff were friendly and helpful, and it was a less than 10m walk from Newark Penn Station. Even with the bed and connectivity issues, I still rate it 7 out of 10.
Room size was good for 2 persons. Hotel was 10 minutes drive away from Newark Penn station. Breakfast was a bonus, people travelling to airport has shuttle every 20 mins.
